Windows Deployment Service ( WDS ) and Errors and Solutions

Hi Guys...

This post is all about Windows Deployment service WDS and its Errors and solutions.

WDS is used to deploy Operating System Images and also is SCCM OSD Component.

Many times we all have faced WDS issues and errors.

Following are Some of Issues and their solutions

Error 10048

Description: The Windows Deployment Services Server service terminated with service-specific error 10048

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:

·         The DHCP server and the WDS server are installed on the same computer.

·         The Do not listen on port 67 option is NOT enabled in the DHCP tab.

Cause
When the DHCP server and the WDS server are installed on the same computer, the WDS Service tries to use the port 67. However, the DHCP server already uses this port.
Solution:
Method 1
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

wdsutil /set-Server /UseDhcpPorts:No
Method 2
1.      Click Start, click Run, type wdsmgmt.msc, and then press OK.
2.      In the Windows Deployment Services window, expand Servers, right-click the WDS server name, and then clickProperties.
3.      In the Server Properties dialog box, click the DHCP tab.
4.      Click to select the Do not listen on port 67 check box, and then click Apply.

WDS Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly

Solution:  Remove the folder “c:\windows\temp\pxeootfiles” and remove the pxe images from the smspxeimages$ share an restart the wds service.

WDS Error 2310

Error comes due to missing of - RemoteInstall folder

Solution:   Run Command  wdsutil /initialise-server /reminst:E:\remoteinstall

Hope it is helpfull  Cheers...:)

  1. Hi,
For error 10048 this method work only on configured WDS Server.
If the WDS server is not configured (in my case), this method doesn’t work.
However, you can modify this registry Key :
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSPXE-UseDhcpPorts
change the value 1 to 0.
the WDS service will be start whitout error.

    Seb
